Create an Implementation Plan
Here are a few points to consider when developing a plan to deploy AEDs in your community:
  • Assess your community's readiness to begin a defibrillation program. Through this assessment, you will understand the needs of the community and build the structure of your program.
  • Assemble a team who can help coordinate and execute the necessary requirements.
  • Buy the right AED for your community's requirements, since AEDs can vary in their capabilities.
  • Ensure that a sufficient number of people are trained and available when needed to operate the AED.
  • Become aware of legal liabilities in your state.
  • Educate the community to generate enthusiasm and support.
  • Explore funding options to cover the investment in equipment and other resources.
  • Coordinate your AED program with local EMS, healthcare, civic and safety personnel in your community.
