Need for Defibrillation Programs
Work Places

AEDs can be strategically located throughout a workplace facility, much like fire extinguishers. This strategy is especially important in settings where response times may be inhibited, such as high-rise buildings or outlying rural campuses. Some specific locations that could benefit from a greater accessibility of AEDs include:

  • Any company with large numbers of employees under one roof
  • Large industrial site office buildings
  • Urban locations where first responders could be inhibited by traffic, staircases, elevators, escalators, or crowds
  • Campuses with tight security controls or spread out facilities
  • Conference centers
  • Any business with an aging work force
  • Work-sites with high-voltage equipment
  • Relatively remote locations, which could take EMS longer to reach
Check with the facility management in your workplace to see if a defibrillation program exists. If not, you could be part of a team to initiate one.
