Early Defibrillation Checklist
  1. How long would it take an AED to reach you in your community? If longer than five minutes, see what your community could do to improve accessibility.

  2. Are the first response emergency vehicles (e.g., fire trucks, police cars) equipped with AEDs? Are these personnel trained to deliver the first shock within 60 seconds of their arrival? If not, find out how to start a Public Access Defibrillation Program in your community.

  3. Are you familiar with the laws and regulations in your state regarding the use of defibrillators by emergency personnel and trained laypersons? If not, find out what the legal liabilities are in your state.
